WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow treatment during which tiny, fine-point needles are used to scratch the surface of your skin to deposit pigment and is perfect for those who have minimal eyebrows and are interested in a fuller look. Microblading is done by hand, so the technician would have complete control and be able to provide you with your desired eyebrow shape for natural-looking results.

Eyebrow microblading is becoming a popular cosmetic tattoo procedure, with more and more people interested in the new alternative to eyebrow tattoos.

In the past, people wanting a sharper or neater-looking eyebrow had to resort to tattooing or a brow lift. Eyebrow microblading is a less painful option that still provides permanent results.

Eyebrow microblading is like a tattoo, but instead of using ink, an artist uses tiny sterilized blades to deposit pigment into the skin. This creates a more natural appearance of fuller eyebrows that lasts and needs to be refreshed every 1-2 years to maintain the colour and crisp hair strokes. After just one session, you will see a huge difference. The semi-permanent tattoo buids with each session and fades slightly over time.

Eyebrow microblading is ideal for people looking to achieve fuler brows with a more natural appearance compared to make-up and other types of eyebrow tattoos.

BENEFITS OF EYEBROW MICROBLADING

Microblading offers numerous benefits, allowing you to say goodbye to sparse or uneven brows. You’ll no longer need to spend time filling them in every morning, making your routine quicker and easier, while giving you beautiful, natural-looking brows you’ll love. Microblading creates soft, perfectly shaped arches that enhance your entire appearance.

The biggest advantage of eyebrow Microblading is never having to worry about your brows again. The semi-permanent pigment gradually fades over time, but it lasts far longer than pencils, powders, or gels. Microblading provides a fresh, polished look without the cost or risks of cosmetic surgery, making it an ideal choice for anyone who wants effortlessly flawless brows.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR MICROBLADING?

Eyebrow Microblading is a cosmetic technique that uses fine needles to create tiny, precise hair-strokes in the skin. These delicate incisions mimic natural hair follicles, allowing you to achieve fuller, darker, and beautifully defined brows.

Avoid waxing, threading or tweezing your eyebrows for at least 2 weeks before your microblading appointment. Avoid excessive alcohol the day before your appointment and no alcohol the day of your appointment. Caffeinated beverages are allowed the day of your appointment, however, please limit your caffeine intake the day of because this may increase your skin's sensitivity. It is also recommended that you do not take aspirin or ibuprofen, and you need to do your best to relax because this will help you get through your appointment.

Eyebrow microblading can be perfect for people who have difficulty shaping their eyebrows on a daily basis but want thicker, fuller, or darker eyebrows. Microblading provides a more natural-looking pair of eyebrows than what can be achieved with eyebrow pencil or powder. It also has a much easier recovery period than other permanent makeup procedures and so is often recommended for people who have important events or vacations coming up and want their eyebrows to look their best.

Eyebrow microblading can cost anywhere from $200-$2000 depending on where you live, your desired look, and how experienced or specialized the microblading artist is. The process usually takes about two hours, and aftercare is pretty minimal. Most clients will experience some mild redness and soreness while their body heals from the procedure, but this only lasts about one day. Although the freshly tattooed eyebrows will appear bolder and darker, with Tanya’s technique, this is minimal and you should be fine returning to work or public places immediately after your procedure.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A MICROBLADING APPOINTMENT?

You may find the process a little painful, although a numbing cream will be applied to ease the pain. Every client will have different pain tolerance, so it’s hard to say precisely how much pain you will feel. This aspect will vary, but when you see the results of your microblading treatment, you will know that it was all worth it. Professional technicians will consider the shape of your face to customize your brows and create a flattering shape because your eyebrows should complement the other features of your face, and the technician will discuss this aspect with you in advance.

The microblading artist will look at your eyebrows and assess the most natural way to build your brows to achieve your desired look. A makeup pencil is used to draw the shape before the procedure begins. You will be able to see the exact shape and edit or change anything you like before committing to your new brows. This part of your appointment is considered a consultation which will take anywhere from 30-60 minutes and is included in your appointment. The artist will not start until you’re happy with the shape because we want to make sure that you get the most out of this process!

 MICROBLADING FAQ’S

  • Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo that is performed using a manual tool. This tool uses many tiny disposable needles to implant pigment beneath the surface of the skin to produce the appearance of hair strokes within your natural eyebrow.

Microblading is for those who want to achieve something more with their eyebrows and can be a great choice for men and women, and for all skin types. Microblading is the most natural way to achieve fuller eyebrows.

A few common reasons why people choose to get microbladed are; to fix uneven brows, loss of natural eyebrow hair, patches of eyebrow hair missing, or to achieve a better brow shape. Microblading is also a great choice for those with complete loss of eyebrow hair as a result of cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania, and other possible reasons.

  • Microblading is ideal for anyone who wants natural-looking, fuller, and well-defined brows. It works well for people with sparse, thin, or uneven brows, or for those who want to save time on daily makeup.

Good candidates typically have healthy skin and do not have conditions that affect healing. Examples include active skin infections like cold sores or eczema in the brow area, or certain medical treatments such as Accutane, or currently undergoing chemotherapy.

If you have any skin conditions or are unsure if you would be a good candidate, please reach out and send a photo of your brows for tailored advice, or book an in-person consultation.

  • Yes, Microblading is generally safe when performed by a properly trained and experienced artist. Using the right technique and high-quality pigments, along with following simple aftercare instructions, greatly reduces any risk of infection or complications.

Choosing a skilled professional and adhering to aftercare ensures your brows heal beautifully and look natural, making the procedure both safe and effective.

  • Microblading typically lasts anywhere from 1 to 3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you care for your brows after the procedure. Oily skin types may notice their results fade a bit faster, while drier skin tends to retain pigment longer. To keep your brows looking fresh and defined, a Microblading refresher is recommended every 18 - 24 months.

  • Topical anesthetic (numbing gel) is applied before and during the procedure to keep you comfortable. Most clients describe the sensation as mild and easily manageable. Every artist works a little differently — some may apply more pressure than others — but an experienced artist usually performs the technique with minimal discomfort. Many of my clients are pleasantly surprised, often saying that tweezing hurts more than the Microblading itself!

  • In many cases, a touch-up appointment helps your Microbladed brows look their best and last longer.

A touch-up is typically scheduled 6-8 weeks after your first appointment but can be scheduled at a later date if you cannot make it within the 6-8 week timeframe. The touch-up is designed to perfect the shape and add any extra color where necessary.

If you’re happy with your brows after the first session, I don’t recommend scheduling another session until more color is needed. In fact, the fewer sessions you do, the more natural your results will look as time passes. Many of my clients heal perfectly after one session, and in that case, a touch-up may not be needed. If you do choose to skip it, just give as much notice as possible, and feel free to send a photo of your healed brows for feedback or a second opinion.

  • Your first refresher is generally recommended 1–2 years after your initial Microblading session.

Clients are encouraged to build their brow tattoo to the darkness and fullness they’re happy with and then maintain it from there. Most clients return for a refresher around every 2 years, though some are happy to wait 3–4 years between sessions.

If you find yourself regularly filling in your brows with makeup, or notice that your tattoo has faded, or the shape is changing or shrinking, it’s a good indication that it’s time for a refresher to restore your brows to their best shape and color.

  • Yes, it’s normal for Microblading pigment to soften or fade slightly over time, usually becoming a lighter or softer version of the original color.

Some pigments used by other artists can change to unwanted tones like orange, red, blue, or green as they heal or fade. The pigments I use, combined with my technique, avoid these color shifts. My clients’ brows heal and fade with subtle ash tones, which blend naturally, especially since most people have ash tones in their natural hair color.

Factors like skin type, sun exposure, and skincare products can still affect how quickly the color changes, and a touch-up or refresher appointment can help maintain the perfect tone.

  • Oily skin can affect how Microblading heals and how long the pigment lasts. On very oily skin, the strokes may blur slightly or fade faster than on normal or dry skin.

However, with the right technique, pigment, and aftercare, oily-skinned clients can still achieve beautiful, natural-looking brows. Some clients with oilier skin may require slightly more frequent touch-ups to maintain the crispness and definition of their Microblading.

  • Not at all! In fact, Microblading can sometimes encourage more hair growth. When your brows are reshaped, some hairs that previously grew outside your brow shape may no longer be included. Over time, these hairs can fill in naturally within your new brow shape, meaning you’ll tweeze less and may even notice more hair than you had before.

Microblading works around your natural brows, enhancing their shape and fullness without harming the hairs you already have.

  • No, Microblading does not cause permanent damage to your skin or existing eyebrows. The pigment is implanted into the upper layers of the skin, not deep enough to cause scarring or long-term harm when done by a skilled artist.

With proper technique and aftercare, Microblading enhances your natural brows safely. The results are semi-permanent, gradually fading over time, which allows for adjustments or changes in shape and color in the future.

  • Microblading is a semi-permanent treatment, so it naturally fades and softens as the years go by. Over time, the pigment may become lighter, and the strokes can blur slightly, giving your brows a more natural, subtle look.

How your Microblading ages depends on factors like skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and skincare products. Oily skin or heavy exfoliation may cause faster fading, while dry skin tends to retain pigment longer. Regular touch-ups or refreshers can help maintain your desired shape, colour, and hair-stroke definition over the years.

  • After just one session, the tattoo is likely to visibly fade away completely. With multiple sessions, pigment will build and it is less likely to have a completely faded eyebrow tattoo without tattoo removal.

  • If you already have an eyebrow tattoo, it’s important to send a clear photo of your brows before booking. This allows me to assess your current tattoo and confirm whether it can be worked with. I will review your photo and provide guidance on the best approach to achieve the most natural and flattering results.

  • Tattoo removal has come a long way, and there are safe, less painful, and more effective methods of removing eyebrow tattoos. We often refer our clients to Studio Kiku to remove or lighten unwanted eyebrow tattoos so that you can proceed with a cleaner slate to active the most natural looking eyebrows.

  • For safety reasons, I do not work with clients who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. Microblading involves tiny skin incisions and pigments, which could pose unnecessary risks to you or your baby.

It’s best to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding to ensure the safest results and the best outcome for your brows.

  • No, it is not safe to get Microblading while taking Accutane (isotretinoin). Accutane thins the skin and affects healing, which increases the risk of scarring, uneven pigment, or other complications.

It’s recommended to wait at least 12 months after finishing Accutane before getting Microblading. You can also talk to your doctor if you have questions or need guidance about the timing for your skin’s safety.

  • Both Microblading and Nano Brows create natural, hair-like strokes — but the main difference lies in the technique and tools used.

    • Microblading is done using a manual handheld tool with ultra-fine needles that implant pigment into the upper layers of the skin. It’s ideal for those who want a soft, natural look and although its great for all skin types, its the ideal option for those that have normal to dry skin types.

    • Nano Brows, on the other hand, are created using a tattoo machine and an ultra-fine needle, which can sometimes result in thicker or darker linesthat appear less natural. This method tends to last longer and is often better suited for oily types.

For clients who want soft, beautifully defined brows rather than a harsh or overly tattooed look, Microblading is usually the better option.
